In honor of National Native | Indigenous Heritage Month, this collab unites Rising Hearts, an Indigenous-led organization focused on community building, storytelling and advocacy through movement founded by proud Lakota, mom, runner, and filmmaker, Jordan Marie Whetstone, and her friend Yatika Starr Fields, an Osage, Muscogee, and Cherokee Painter, muralist, and ultrarunner.

Discover Yatika’s bright and vivid designs splashed across the technical Race Pace Tank and Trucker Hat. First created for GU Energy Labs in March 2023, the original collage-based piece incorporates the four directions of the Native American medicine wheel and the feathers of the Rising Hearts logo. Plus, every purchase includes a Raspberry Lemonade GU Energy Gel and Be A Good Relative sticker with the artwork. “A lot of movement, a lot of expression, a lot of color”—the perfect inspiration for your next PR or run.
The Running On Native Lands Initiative
The aim of this initiative is to make land acknowledgements and increasing Indigenous representation at race events a common and inclusive practice and encourages those who become a partner to go the extra mile by giving back to the Indigenous communities from whom the land is borrowed.
The Raspberry Lemonade gel made by GU Energy Labs launched officially in March 2023, along with Know To Run: Yatika, a short film about Yatika, his 2022 Western States 100 entry and experience, and the historical firsts that happened with this race, through meaningful collaborations and community building.
GU Energy Labs brought the gel to the The Running Event in December 2022, showcasing the new flavor and building awareness and momentum for this collaboration and the artwork! Since 2023, GU Energy Labs has donated $60,000 to Rising Hearts through the profits made by the Raspberry Lemonade flavor. This is very exciting! And those funds, have supported our programming, event planning, compensation for Indigenous speakers, and travel scholarships for our athletes and community partners.
